Most of our fiber is made into 100% alpaca yarn. The feel and texture of working with alpaca yarn is delightful. Sometimes, we add some fine merino. The content of our yarn will always be noted on the label or description.
Some favorite knitting projects are making hats because of the variety of patterns available. The natural colors complement each other in simple designs. Headbands and finger-less gloves are also very popular. Knitting is very calming and rewarding. Alpaca yarn works equally well for crocheted projects.
We have discovered that alpaca fiber that is too coarse for yarn can be made into beautiful area rugs. This gives our older animals whose fiber has coarsened continued value. Even the belly and leg fiber from all our alpacas goes into the rugs we have made. The rugs are woven by a small company in Texas in a variety of designs and natural colors. These rugs are easily cleaned and cared for. A simple hosing off with cold water outside on the sidewalk is usually all that is needed for ordinary dirt. They can be spot cleaned for more serious spills and because of the nature of alpaca fiber, they do not absorb stains. They will give many years of outstanding use to any décor.
